The world has changed a great deal in the last four decades and so have civil society, NGOs, and the aid industry. Our thoughts on development have moved on, many countries have grown enormously in a relatively short time, and many social indicators, such as infant mortality rate, child morbidity, and educational and health indices, have improved massively.
However, some key issues have remained with us through this period, such as increasing global inequality and tension between citizens and the state.
