20 Years On: Reflections on Partnerships

2024 will mark the 20th anniversary of the publication of INTRAC’s research study on partnerships Autonomy orDependence? Case Studies of North – South NGO Partnerships (Brehm et al 2004). The publication presented the findings of research exploring the relationships between European development NGOs and their civil society partners around the world. Twenty years later, what has changed?

Vicky Mancuso Brehm was a member of the team which undertook the original research study. In this short paper, she reflects on the work done in 2004 and on the changes that have occurred in civil society partnerships in the years since then.
