Willemijn joined INTRAC in 2019 as Research and Programme Coordinator, and served in this role until late 2022. Since then, she has been a member of the INTRAC network and has continued to work on our projects.
Within the wider realm of development, she takes an interest in public health, gender equality and youth empowerment. She holds a strong portfolio of both quantitative and qualitative research methods with a focus on participatory approaches and action-based learning and is passionate about data visualisation.
Willemijn was INTRAC’s programme coordinator for a longer term strategic multi-country youth-led accountability and youth civil society programme delivered by a consortium called ‘The Development Alternative’ (2019-22), as well as coordinator of the Civil Society Innovation Fund in Ethiopia (2022- present). In addition to longer term strategic programme coordination, she provides research support on various MEL and Organisational Development consultancy assignments. Willemijn also undertakes in-house research on INTRAC’s strategic themes and outreach ideas. She was a member of INTRAC’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) – and the Staff Wellbeing working groups (2022/23 Financial Year).
Willemijn holds an MSc degree in Management, Policy Analysis & Entrepreneurship in Health & Life Sciences, specialising in International Public Health with distinction. She wrote her dissertation for UNICEF South Africa, for whom she conducted a study to assess learners’ perspectives on the provision of sexual and reproductive health and rights services in South African public schools. Before joining INTRAC, Willemijn worked as a project coordinator and researcher at the Edgar Diabetes and Obesity Research Centre at the University of Otago in New Zealand. She has also been a hands-on board member of a Dutch NGO aiming to improve maternal health services through the establishment of community groups in Tanzania.
